Light and Water are the first things that might strike a visitor to this, the oldest city on the continent of Oreitheldarin. It is a city of contrasts, the rich green of the parks that ring the city, the squares that people shop in that are filled with stalls, fountains, and statuary, to the canals which are the lifeblood of the city itself. Formed of the fresh clean water of the Alquaotso River, the current is strong enough to keep the city clean of pollutants and lends a fresh scent to the air.

The marble bridges that cross the canals make foot travel in the city not only possible but desirable, as fun as it is to travel via skiff or gondola there are simply too many things that could be missed if one ignored the bridges and paths. Near the actual river there are always ships or ferries to be seen that can take one quickly from one end of Oreitheldarin to the other.

Yet the canals themselves hold a charm unmatched, the relaxing feeling that comes from moving from one part of the city to another on them never seems to lose its charm. There is a special bloodline of black cats that live in Nethyrin ... it is said to bring good luck to have one cross your path, and the shopkeepers eagerly try to sway these cats into staying in their booths and shops.

In the squares that dot the city, there are many places to eat outside and enjoy the warm weather and the fresh breezes off the canals and river. While it is possible to eat indoors ... especially during the spring rains ... most dwellers in the city enjoy at least lunch in the outdoors, and enjoy the fine wines and traditional dishes such as fritelle, and galani. It is also traditional to take the light fritelle with you as you walk or travel the canals, a light treat to enjoy while seeing the sights that Nethyrin has to offer.
